The power of the spoken word is sometimes forgotten. All words have a physical electrical charge and are powerful. But me, like many others, use them without a second thought. If you’ve ever found yourself in a country where you don’t speak the language, you begin to appreciate the power of words. You want so desperately to communicate with the locals but also so much is lost in translation. Words are not just for communication but for human interaction to express and receive connection. Here is some further wisdom on the topic:
Words are singularly the most powerful force available to humanity. Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to harm, to humiliate and to humble. (Credit: Yehuda Berg)
Considering the ‘powerful force’ of the words we utter, we must discipline ourselves to speak in a way that conveys respect, gentleness and humility. Be kind to all and speak words that are beacons of inspiration, enthusiasm and encouragement to all. Kind and sweet words were always music to the ears of listeners.
When we speak we should speak with mindfulness, in a way to solidify peace and compassion in our characters.

So, think before you speak. Choose your words wisely, knowing your intention and the desired effect on those receiving your words.
The saying we often learn as young children “sticks and stones can break my bones, but words will never harm me” – this is not entirely true as injuries from sticks and stones can be healed relatively easily. However, the harm from the “wrong” words can lead to life-long trauma.
